Object Reservoir, Inc.
Austin, Texas
Job Title

Senior Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer - Software Development

Additionally, there is a GUI programming opening

Location
Austin, Texas
Position Responsibilities

Object Reservoir, Inc. is looking for an experienced senior-level fluid flow simulation developer with a specialization in applications of the Finite Element Method to industrial fluid mechanics problems, and programming experience with implementing complex numerical applications.

Object Reservoir is a venture-backed technology-based services company dedicated to quickly delivering reservoir knowledge and improving oil and gas reservoir performance to the upstream oil and gas industry. Object Reservoir research and development is performed in Austin, TX, with company headquarters in Houston, Texas.

This job opportunity is located in the Austin, TX office.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have an advanced engineering or applied mathematics degree and demonstrated abilities in designing, implementing and validating large-scale FE codes. Experience in computational fluid dynamics, finite elements for fluid mechanics, computational physics, large-scale scientific application R&D, high-performance computing, or distributed/parallel computing is desirable. Demonstrated experience in object-oriented coding of scientific applications is a must.

The successful candidate will further develop OR’s technology of finite element-based black oil reservoir modeling and be able to develop and maintain formulations for the numerical processes occurring in a reservoir model and related forms of equations. This requires an understanding of: the mathematical and numerical properties of the governing equations for multi-phase fluid flow in a permeable medium and in pipes, finite-element solutions of the governing partial differential equations, and numerical methods for solving large systems of equations. The overall goal is to model the flows of reservoir oil, solvent gas and water in three dimensions plus time over the entire useful life of a well.

The senior modeling engineer will formulate enhancements and extensions to the methods in the Object Reservoir framework, generate codes to implement the models of physical processes, perform numerical analysis on the underlying formulation and implementation, formulate test cases for the verification of the numerical operators against reference solutions, work with the user interface group in designing and providing the necessary interfaces, participate in runtime optimization of the code, and work with services engineers to resolve operational issues as they arise in supporting client modeling activities.

Other required skills include:

5+ years experience in complex numerical analysis applications development.
Strong programming experience in Java/C++.
Ability to work in a team setting.
Good oral and written communication skills in English.

Desired Additional Experience:

Familiarity with petroleum problems such as multi-phase flow in a reservoir, compositional fluid phase-behavior, multi-phase relative permeability models, near well skin and altered permeability zone models, near well liquid drop-out effects, discrete fractures, hydraulic fractures, completion models, and well bore hydraulics.
Experience with the numerical software package Mathematica.
Experience following a well-defined software development methodology.
Experience in high-performance computing, including distributed/parallel computing.
Experience in development or use of scientific visualization techniques.
